Ticking along

So, over the last 4 days I've completed Week 4 of the C25K programme (estimated distance now about 2.8km, thanks to the ruler on Google Earth. I've tried using MyTracks, but trying to run that with the GPS on, plus the music player, plus the C25K app is a wee bit too much for my poor little phone), been for a climbing session with C & done a yoga class at the climbing gym. Oh, and I'm biking to work most days, but that hardly counts as it's about 2km & I tootle about at 17km/hr wearing my work clothes. But like I told Mum, that's 20min a day that I'm not sitting down & I get the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. What isn't covered by the helmet.

Catching the bug?

I'm up to week 3, day 2 on the Couch to 5K programme - thanks to the very handy Android app on my phone. Spring seems to have given me a kick in the butt & I'm loving running around the park. Pity I'm moving soon :)

6 week second chance

Bit of a workout at the gym today, including getting the expiry date on my membership extended due to quake related closures (very high tech, it's a sticky label with the date written on in biro). Turns out 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon is really quiet :) Gee, wonder why? Anyway, pushed myself a little in terms of actually staying on the cardio machines for the amount of time I'd said I would, and also got some weights work in, with a balance of legs & arms.

Let's see if I keep it up this time. Anyone willing to take bets?

Quake redux

February 22, 2011 (my 28th birthday)

What more could you ask for on your birthday? A 6.3 magnitude aftershock in the middle of lunchtime on a weekday.

Princess Margaret Hospital stood up well - a bit more rubble came through the EQ strengthening gaps, a bunch more windows blew out & we're going to have to order another batch of monitors. At the moment, there's no decision about non-clinical staff getting back to work, which is understandable.

The flat is fine, I finally got in contact with Mum & Dad this morning & we had a good chat. Mum's been past the River Rd house - the brick garage is demolished, but she hasn't been inside/around the back. Leanne's place is standing strong, although they have no services at the moment. Mainly awaiting power so that the water pumping station can start up again. They've got plenty of food & access to bore water from a friend on Marshlands Rd.

All friends & family are accounted for - a few work in the CBD & were without their cellphones or contact methods until they found their way home (yay for bikes, seems to be the best way to get around at the moment).

Currently just taking it easy - hard to know what to do, but I may put some nervous energy into baking.

Regular as clockwork

Biking: 13km a day minimum
Climbing: pretty consistent on the grade 14s
Swimming: 1600m each Sunday.

Next challenge is to get a gym session in with the biking to work. Hmm, getting up with the first alarm & going before work, or going after work & then having to bike home afterwards?

Bikewise 2011

So, it's all on at work. J is kicking my ass after only 2 days - I'm going to have to do an extra 20km a day to keep up with her! I tried to do some laps of the park this evening, but the stupid people made that a bit hard. I think the cycle track next to the railway line will be a better bet.

Tomorrow is the organising meeting for work's Bike to Work Day event - which I'll have to bike to (depends on how busy the day looks - I might not go).

It's easy if you try

Sunday
Activity: swim
Distance: 1600m
Time: 35min

Monday
Activity: gym - cardio
Time: 30min

Yep, that's a 1600 up there. One mile. A case of putting my head down, chugging along & not daydreaming. I also suspect that decent nutrition is playing a part - the last two weeks I've actually eaten both breakfast & lunch on Sundays before going for a swim. It seems to be making a difference.

However I decided to sleep in this morning, so I chucked some clothes & a towel in the car, planning to go to the gym after work. I very nearly caved & went straight home, but was saved from that indignity by the fact that turning right out of the carpark at work is kinda tough, whereas if I go left & go to the gym, things are much easier. See, being lazy does work. Sometimes.

Plan is for another gym session tomorrow. We'll see whether it's a pre-work or post-work workout.

Nearly there

So, I've cycled two days this week, can I make it to my semi-goal of 3? I'll report back tomorrow. Also had the first day back at the climbing gym - not too bad. Attempted 4, completed 2, got 2/3 of the way up the other 2 & probably would have completed the final one, but C came over all dizzy while belaying & P had to take over, while I hung off the wall. The arms were a bit tired after that & I missed a few holds. Oh well, next time.

Surprising myself

Sunday
Activity: swim
Distance: 1500m

Don't know how long it took me, but 1500m after not getting in the pool for 2 weeks and having Christmas? That's pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

I also managed to bike to work on Monday. Yet to see if I keep it up for the goal of 3 days this week :) Best intentions though.
